Pope Leo XIV is the first American Pope in history – a special milestone for Catholics in the United States. He was born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois. From a young age, he enjoyed serving in the church, first as an altar boy and later as a priest.
Before becoming Pope, he worked in South America, especially in Peru, where he was a missionary, teacher, and bishop of Chiclayo. His work demonstrated his love for teaching, for the poor, and for guiding people in faith.
